On October 17, 2022, Obvious Mimic is launching a crowdfunding campaign for their first solo adventure: The Wolves of Langston.

What is The Wolves of Langston?
This original solo adventure is a story-driven murder mystery written to be compatible with Dungeons & Dragons: 5th Edition. Heavily inspired by Choose Your Own Adventure, Fighting Fantasy, and The Dark Eye solo adventures, this story allows D&D fans to play in the downtime between sessions, to try out new character concepts, or just to have fun with arguably the world’s most popular tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs).
Gameplay mechanics closely track to D&D 5e under the Open Gaming License (OGL). Players create full characters of any class or race just as they would for a standard session around the table. They would then respond to prompts in the text to make interact with non-player characters (NPCs), explore, and even fight within combat encounters using the same dice rolls and modifiers found in D&D’s Basic Rules.
Flexible rules allow players to take actions “off the page” as well as to affect the outcome based on the application of their characters’ skills and abilities.
To further extend The Wolves of Langston’s gaming experience, the story is designed in such a way that it will combine with the regular play of a standard gaming group. This way, a player could take an existing character and use this solo adventure to earn additional experience, get some unique treasure, and contribute to that character’s backstory in a unique and organic manner.
“We love games of all kinds, but tabletop games have a special place in our hearts,” said Daniel Howard, Obvious Mimic co-founder and writer of The Wolves of Langston. “But when we looked into solo RPGs, something was missing. While fun, they lacked the social element that we’ve always loved about tabletop games. And many needed a lot of setup in terms of maps, tokens, journals, and other accessories. So we set about creating a stand-alone gaming experience that was simple and accessible on its own. But it had to be able to work as part of the communal tabletop gaming space. What we’ve made is really exciting, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with the world.”
The Kickstarter campaign is designed to fund the continued production of the solo adventure and to extend its available content and formats.
When will The Wolves of Langston be ready?
The Wolves of Langston launches on Kickstarter on October 17, 2022. The digital version of the book will be available in January 2023 and print editions available in February 2023.
